Marine Corps only branch of service that guarantees aviation?
seeking knowledge asked:
I’m Marine Corps veteran I’m almost done with school and I plan on going back into the military to fly planes, my passion. My question, is the Marine Corps the only branch of service that guarantees aviation if you pass the military flight aptitude skills test? The AF won’t take prior service so that leaves Navy, Marine Corps, and the Coast Guard. The Army only flies rotary wing, I want to fly fixed wing. I would like to explore other branches since I am a Marine vet. But I would not mind going back to the Corps if they are the only branch of service that guarantees aviation. And I’m sure I would pass OCS and TBS with flying colors.

The Army has fixed wing aircraft. Several kinds. Check it out.

I don’t believe that any branch guarantees aviation. Oh, Bec, Marines is always capitalized.
Commercial Aviation
Yes. And the Marine Corps only guarantees you a school seat in Pensacola. If you fail out during the first week, you revert back to a ground contract (then you will be placed into an MOS based on needs of the Corps (Supply, Admin)). Pensacola is tough, some people get dropped academically, physically, or medically.

The Army does fly fixed wing aircraft. Limited amounts but still – I know for a fact that they fly the UC-35 and other smaller passenger and recon acft.

I thought the Marines only guaranteed that you’ll be a rifleman in the Marine Corps. I know the Army and Navy give out all kinds of guarantees and contracts.

You should go and ask. If you are going back in as a commissioned officer you may fly either fix-wing or rotary wing. If you go back in to be a warrant officer, you will probably start in rotary wing and move to fixed wing as you get promoted. Fixed wing in the Army is usually senior warrants.
