Marine Aviation?
Michael asked:
is it true that there are people in the marines and the navy on the aircraft carriers, that they can have the same jobs dealing with aircraft on these ships? does anyone actually know for a fact?
also, if this is true, are marines on the ships less or for shorter periods of time?

Sure there are. Aircraft carriers have Sailors and Marines working naval jobs along with aviation jobs.

Marines do fly off carriers.
Unlike pilots in the other services,Marine pilots go through infantry training first.
When the Marines on the ground need air cover, the Marine pilots come in at tree top level and on target.
Silver Oak
Yes, it’s true… the only difference between the marines and the sailors is, the sailors usually know who both of their parents are.
Silver Oak
Yes. Marine aviators fly off of carriers. However they are only attached to the ship for a deployment. Unlike the Navy pilots who are assigned to that carrier.
Silver Oak
Marines fly off carrriers, their squadron marked as VMFA.
Silver Oak
Yes there are Marines on carriers. I was on the U.S.S. Enterprise for 6 months. Had a great time. And yes I had the same job while I was on the ship.
